The MineSafe Company was formed for no other reason than to meet a critical need within the mining industry - to eliminate the scalding injuries that resulted from people removing radiator caps from hot radiators.

More than eight years ago, Chris Sibley began development of a new Safety Locking Pressure Release Radiator Cap. The original intention was to make the cap for underground coal mining because of the scald injuries sustained by so many maintenance personnel in this area of industry - injuries which are still occurring today. As things turned out, the cap became successful in a lot of other industries.

Originally, Chris was asked by a maintenance superintendent at a local coal mine to supply radiator caps to them. He obtained what stock there was around the country and inspected them all before supplying them to his customer. He ended up being able to supply only some of the caps that he had bought because most were too unsafe to use. All the caps did release pressure to some degree, but most of the cap designs did not allow the seating o-ring of the cap body to be lifted high enough from the filler neck seating to relieve the pressure, therefore restricting the pressure release path. Others had plastic levers and aluminium plates, and the rest had only a steel lever with no locking ability.

He considered all the caps were dangerous to use for the reasons outlined. Because Chris had been scalded himself - but also in the interests of the safety of others - he set out to design a cap specifically for the mining industry. After several years of design, the radiator cap was finally released to the market.

Today, MineSafe Radiator Caps are available in 70mm Industrial and 55mm Automotive sizes, in a range of pressure ratings to suit many applications.

We are currently developing a 100mm heavy industrial radiator cap for larger applications such as locomotives and dump trucks.
